Meat Free Monday
Good morning! I write this today, after posting on School Story and Parent Pay! Yesterday, we had our first ‘live’ assembly – it is over 18 months since we have had the children together for an assembly. I was very proud to see how well they did – all coming together for an assembly for the first time, in a long time! It was lovely to hear them say – ‘Good morning Miss Williams, good morning everyone’ – something I have not heard for a long time! After half term, our ‘Thank You’ Assemblies will be ‘real’ – children coming into the hall to see their friends/other children being ‘thanked’. Yesterday’s assembly was about Meat Free Monday – as a school we have been Meat Free on a Monday for a long time, but thought it would be a good thing to re-visit. The dairy and meat industry is not sustainable – and is a major contributor to global warming. We all need to do something – by not eating meat for just one day a week – if we all did this, the effect would be huge. Every 2 hours the rainforest is being lost – the size of 200 football pitches being cleared every 2 hours for cattle to graze on – for meat. Do we carry on until there are no rainforests left? It takes 30 bathtubs of water to produce ONE beefburger…this is not sustainable. We all need to do something and by going meat free for just one day – you are doing something!
